Bladder Training

Bladder Training for urinary incontinence is one of the first approaches that can be used for treating urine leakage issues. This is because it is non-invasive. Bladder training basically means establishing a regular schedule for using the toilet with set intervals between urinations. It might seem cumbersome to manage in the beginning  but a few days of effort is all it’s going to take to get used to it.

Bladder Retraining Technique

To start bladder training, a diary should be maintained. You must make note of every time you have the urge to use the toilet. The diary should also have entries when there is a leak. Using a diary as a guide and then following techniques below will help one gain control over urination.

Scheduling bathroom visits

Using the diary, you can estimate how many times you have to use the toilet.  You have to try and figure the basic minimum of time and decide on the interval.  For example, if you’re going to the bathroom every hour, schedule bathroom visits at every one hour, 15 minutes or so. Use the toilet at each scheduled time, whether you actually feel the urge to go or not. Gradually increase the amount of time between bathroom breaks. This will help you become more aware of your bladder's needs, and over time, enable you to control them.

Delaying toilet visits

When you feel the urge to urinate, hold it for a few extra minutes or so. Then gradually increase the amount of time further, until you can last longer. This technique will also help to get your bladder under control. The whole idea is to become aware of your bladder needs and then to control it. During this phase of training Pristine Life’s incontinence underwear will prevent wetting your outerwear. They are also useful when you have gained better control over your bladder.

Kegel exercise

These exercises help strengthen the muscles you use to stop the flow of urine. They can be done anywhere, anytime. Though these exercises were initially designed for women, they can also help men with urinary incontinence.
